Gorilla and Chimps Safari

  In exploring Rwanda Primates you will traverse 2 historical parks Nyungwe ancient Forest National Park for man’s closest cousins the Chimpanzees and the World’s rare and most endangered species the Mountain Gorillas in their most threatened forest park, Volcanoes National Park of Rwanda

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Nyungwe Forest

You will be met by our safari guide at Kigali International Airport or preferred accommodation and after a small briefing about the safari, proceed to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Dinner and overnight Peace Guest House/Gisakura Guest House

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking

Early start to chimpanzee trek, this can take anything from a few hours to a full day depending on

where the chimpanzees are. It should be mentioned that it is not guaranteed to see the chimps as they are unpredictable and can move long distances in one day. There are several other primates in Nyungwe such as the Rwenzori colobus, L’Hoest’s monkey, Silver monkey, Owl faced monkey and the Grey cheeked Mangabey. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. Dinner and overnight at Peace Guest House/Gisakura Guest House

Day 3: Drive to Gisenyi

Following breakfast, transfer to Gisenyi town which is located on the shores of Lake Kivu. Dinner and overnight at Malahide Paradis Hotel

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking

Wake up for a hearty breakfast, drive to the foothills of the volcanoes in North Rwanda for your gorilla trekking adventure. Trekking through the forest, hills and swamps can be tough, strenuous and tiring, sometimes taking up to 8 hours in the forest. But coming in contact with the great primates is well worth the effort. You spend one hour among the gorillas which is a truly amazing experience. Dinner and overnight at your lodge

Day 5: Reserved for departure

Return to Kigali, after leisury breakfast for a city tour before the safari ends to take your departure flight back home.
