Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in the Ancient Rainforest

Wake up early for breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before set off to the forest to see the gorillas. The ranger guides will take you through the forest, slashing at the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, to track gorillas. This trek can take from half an hour to five hours so a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes. It is amazing to think that there are only about 700 or so of these creatures left in the world! Then we will cross the Uganda-Rwanda border and head to Ruhengeri, Rwanda. Dinner and overnight at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge/Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/Kinigi Guest House

Day 4: Golden Monkey Tracking Following your breakfast, go into the rainforest for yet another interesting activity to trek the golden monkeys. These primates are one of the most endangered in the Volcanoes. You will be part of a select group of a maximum of 6 people, and the track will take most of the day. After the trek, return to the lodge for relaxation OR a community walk. Dinner and overnight at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge/Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/Kinigi Guest House

Early morning, you will enter the Gorilla sanctuary of Parc National des Volcans, the tropical rain forest covering the hills surrounding Virunga Volcanoes. The trekking is a demanding one but also a rewarding experience. Ensure you bring with you enough water and the packed lunch. The time spent in the forest depends on the movements of the Gorillas in their natural environments/wild.
